Supporting Healthier Masculinities with Professor Michael Flood

Supporting Healthier Masculinities with Professor Michael Flood

Preventing violence against women and girls

We’re excited to be working with Professor Michael Flood, one of the world’s leading researchers on men, masculinities, gender equality and violence prevention.

We've long admired Professor Flood’s work. In fact, earlier this year, he was a guest on our podcast series (if you'd like to hear what he had to say, Tooled Up subscribers can tune in here).

His work explores how ideas about masculinity shape behaviour and how challenging harmful norms can lead to healthier, more equitable lives for everyone. His research has influenced international policy, education programmes and community initiatives, and his writing is widely used by educators and practitioners across the world.

If you’ve ever visited Professor Flood's website, XY Online, you’ll know it’s packed with thoughtful, evidence-based blogs and resources. To help bring this work to life, we’ve transformed one of Professor Flood’s most practical pieces, "What Men Can Do to Help End Violence Against Women" into a clear, engaging and easy-to-share download.

This new resource focuses on realistic, everyday actions men can take: from calling out harmful language to modelling respectful relationships and supporting gender equality at home, at work and in communities. It’s practical, grounded in research, and designed to spark reflection as well as action. The UN's #16DaysofActivism against gender-based violence might just have finished, but we can all try to make some simple and effective changes year-round.

We’re really pleased to share this resource and to be collaborating with Professor Flood as part of our wider work on gender, relationships and violence prevention. We hope it encourages important conversations for our community.

This year’s theme is #InspireInclusion and the event focuses on celebrating women’s achievements, raising awareness about discrimination and taking action to drive gender parity. Working as part of a small (but growing) team of fantastic women (and men), these are things that we are passionate about at Tooled Up, and we have plenty of resources for the Tooled Up community which will help to break down stereotypes and recognise the successes of some remarkable women.
